Heli fun...

So I've been kind of lazy so far this week. I've already had two days off in a row and I didn't do any photography... you could count the backlog entry I made but that is obviously half assed... anyway so to try and make up for it I decided to make a photo this morning. I was going to continue with the Strobist Exercises Lighting 102: 2.1, Lighting 102: 2.2, Lighting 102: Cooking Light & Lighting 102: Umbrella Specular.

Well I didn't do that but what I did end up doing was a sort of reverse engineering of the first photograph as an example from Lighting 102: 2.1. Truth be told mine didn't come out as well but it was good times and I've always wanted to photograph my toy helicopter like this.

I'm not going to go into details because you can just go to Lighting 102: 2.1 to get my basic technique. My real trouble with this was finding something shiny to put the helicopter on. Yeah so a toaster is definitely shinny enough but is unfortunately full of imperfections that show up as specular highlights and weird crap. Also I went for a less dark look to the copter vs Davids toy car. I could see myself doing more of this with toys...
